Another lovely timber which actually reddens with age. If using outside it does need to be well maintained. Good value wooden signs.
Sweet chestnut is traditionally known as poor mans oak! It does look similar. It also has a high tannin content that makes it very durable.
Instead of engraving lettering, the background is sandblasted away leaving the letters slightly raised over a driftwood style finish.
