What are your framed entrance signs made from?

Our framed entrance signs combine solid hardwood posts and frames with a durable sign panel. Choose from traditionally finished oak, naturally oily Iroko or painted hardwood. The standard panel is made from aluminium composite, although several alternative materials are also available.

Where can these entrance signs be used?

Wooden framed entrance signs are ideal for farms, country estates, large homes, businesses, schools, holiday parks, hotels, wedding venues and other properties where an attractive, clearly visible entrance sign is required.

What is the difference between oak and Iroko?

Oak has a traditional appearance and is treated with fungicide before being finished with three coats of tough satin varnish and woodcare milk. Iroko is a sustainably sourced hardwood that offers a more affordable alternative to oak. Its naturally high oil content makes it durable, so it is supplied with an oiled finish rather than varnished.

Can the posts and frame be painted?

Yes. We can make painted hardwood posts and frames in a range of colours. Standard colours include black, white, Farrow & Ball Lichen and Farrow & Ball Purbeck Stone. Other stock colours and specially matched colours are also available.

Are standard and bespoke sizes available?

Yes. We offer four standard entrance sign sizes to suit most locations, but our carpenters can also make the frame, posts and sign panel to your required dimensions. Please contact us for a quotation for a bespoke size.

Can I choose a different type of sign panel?

Yes. As well as aluminium composite, we can supply full-colour printed panels, engraved Corian, reflective signage and panels with more than one lettering colour. Other sign materials may also be suitable, depending on the design and location.

Can the entrance sign be double-sided?

Yes. Single-sided and double-sided entrance signs are available. Aluminium composite is normally matt on one side and gloss on the other, so a standard double-sided panel may have one matt face and one gloss face. Two panels can be fitted back-to-back when matching finishes are required on both sides.

Can you include a logo or image?

Yes. You can include one of the images from our extensive image library, or supply your own logo or artwork. Full-colour photographs and detailed graphics can also be reproduced using a printed sign panel.

Which fonts and lettering colours can I choose from?

We have a large selection of fonts and lettering colours. Our designers can help you choose a combination that is attractive, easy to read and appropriate for your property or business.

What post-top styles are available?

The wooden posts can be finished with traditional Gothic points, bevelled tops, standard flat tops or decorative post caps. The best option will depend on the style of sign and the appearance you want to create.

How are the entrance signs installed?

The posts can be placed into prepared holes and securely backfilled. Alternatively, we supply ground-spike post holders, bolt-down holders for existing concrete and concrete-in post holders for more exposed locations.

Should wooden posts be concreted directly into the ground?

We advise against setting the wooden posts directly into concrete, as trapped moisture can reduce their lifespan. Using suitable post holders or a well-drained installation method helps protect the timber and makes future maintenance easier.

Will a full-colour printed entrance sign fade?

Outdoor full-colour printing will gradually fade over time due to sunlight and weather exposure. The rate of fading will depend on the sign’s position, direction and level of exposure.
