Shaun Price founded The Sign Maker in 2000, bringing his innovative ideas and hands-on approach, while his wife, Kate Price, contributed her expertise in advertising and marketing.

What started as a small venture offering a limited selection of wooden signs quickly expanded to include stone house signs. The acquisition of an engraving machine marked a pivotal moment, producing countless engraved plaques and even “no smoking” signs—which Shaun humorously recalls as a source of many sleepless nights!

Over the years, The Sign Maker has steadily grown, forming valuable partnerships with UK trade suppliers such as Winkleigh Timber and Mole Valley Farmers. The family business also became a true family affair, with their daughter Anna joining the vinyl team and their son Jake taking charge of sign design.

As the business flourished, Shaun’s constant stream of ideas led to investments in new equipment. The company expanded its offerings far beyond wooden house signs to include stone, metal, fingerposts, and even wheel covers.

With a commitment to sustainability, The Sign Maker made significant strides in supporting the environment. They installed a wind turbine to power their operations and a biomass system to provide heating using locally sourced timber.

Kate’s passion for eco-friendly practices continues to drive innovation, inspiring new initiatives like the creation of wildlife ponds. While Shaun has stepped back from production, he remains focused on developing fresh products and services to ensure The Sign Maker continues to thrive.
