At The Sign Maker, we take pride in our wide range of sign-crafting skills, but we particularly shine when it comes to Farm and Estate Signs. Why? Because we create all types of signs in-house, from small acrylic laminate plaques to large Oak entrance signs. This means we can cater to all your signage needs, making us a one-stop solution for farms and estates. With your logos and brand colours on file, we streamline the design process, saving you time and the hassle of working with multiple suppliers. In this blog, we’ll guide you through selecting the ideal signs for various farm and estate purposes.

Entrance Signs

First impressions are crucial, and the entrance sign is the first thing your visitors or clients see. A worn, outdated sign might give them the wrong impression of your business. Instead, impress from the moment they arrive with a standout entrance sign.

For farms and estates, an entrance sign should blend into the natural surroundings while staying true to the brand’s identity. Here are a few options that achieve this balance perfectly:

Natural Wooden Entrance Signs

Crafted from Oak or Iroko, these signs integrate seamlessly with the natural environment of farm and estate properties. Oak, with its golden hue and beautiful grain, has been a favourite for centuries thanks to its strength and durability. At The Sign Maker, we treat our Oak signs with a satin varnish for added longevity. Iroko, another excellent hardwood, offers unique colouring ranging from yellow to deep orange, occasionally featuring striking tiger-like marks. It’s treated with Devon oil to enhance its natural oily texture.

These signs can be front-fixed, mortised into posts, or customised with extras like decorative post tops or wooden shoulders. For businesses hosting multiple companies, ladder signs are also a practical alternative.

Stone Signs

If you’re after a sign that’s both eye-catching and low-maintenance, stone signs are a fantastic option. Choose from high-quality Granite, rich slate with its natural patterns, or the lighter Purbeck stone for a Cotswold-inspired aesthetic. These signs not only exude quality but also blend beautifully with natural landscapes.

Stone Signs

Our stone signs can be made in a range of thicknesses but for larger stone signs that are either being screwed or inset into a wall we would recommend around 30mm thick.

Finally, you may want to continue along the natural theme and go even more rugged with one of our natural stone boulders. These look fantastic as a stand-alone piece of built into a wall.

Slate House Signs

Painted Wooden Signs

For those wanting an entrance sign that stands out and aligns more closely with their brand colours, our painted wooden signs are a great choice. The painted signs we craft here at The Sign Maker are usually made from Sapele Hardwood or Tricoya. Both timbers are great for painting as they have little to no movement in the timber and bond very well to the paint to provide a high-quality finish.

Like our natural wooden signs, painted signs can be front-fixed, mortised, or ladder-style, with customisable post tops and shoulders for added flair.

Information Signs

Beyond entrance signs, all businesses need clear, informative signage. While keeping costs in mind, you can still have professional, long-lasting information signs. Here are some material options we recommend for these purposes:

Aluminium Composite

Aluminium Composite signs are durable and come in various colours. They feature either hard-wearing cut vinyl or printed designs, laminated for extended life. These signs are perfect for information purposes as they’re clear, low-maintenance, and long-lasting.

Acrylic Laminate

Another excellent choice is acrylic laminate, which comes in a variety of colours and thicknesses. This material is ideal for information signs requiring intricate details or lots of text. It’s also exceptionally durable and easy to maintain.

Engraved Laminate Signs

Corian

For those seeking a more premium finish, Corian signs are an excellent option. Made from a blend of stone dust and resin, Corian has the look and feel of stone, but it allows for detailed engraving, making it perfect for information signs with small lettering or intricate designs.

On-the-Go Advertising (Wheel Covers)

Finally, for those with 4×4 vehicles (a common sight on farms and estates), we offer branded wheel covers for spare tyres. Why not turn your Land Rover into a mobile advertisement and boost your brand visibility while on the move?

At The Sign Maker, we’re committed to crafting high-quality, bespoke signs that meet the unique needs of your farm or estate. Whether you need an elegant entrance sign, informative signage, or custom branding, we’ve got you covered.
