Engraved Brass Plaques
Brass is a manmade material was first created about 7000 years ago and has been used for memorial plaques for hundreds of years. Its long-standing use makes it a truly traditional and timeless choice. Brass has also been a popular material for engraved nameplates, adorning the front doors of grand townhouses, and professional establishments such as solicitors, dentists, and other city businesses. Not all brass is the same. At The Sign Maker we only use the best quaily engravers brass in 1.5 mm or 2 mm thickness
Engraved Memorial Plaques
At The Sign Maker, we offer a variety of materials for our engraved memorial plaques. Brass, the traditional choice for memorials and signs, provides a classic look but requires some maintenance. For a lower-maintenance option, we offer exterior-grade flexible acrylic, which is weatherproof and UV resistant, as well as stainless steel, known for its durability and long-lasting qualities. Each material has its own unique appearance, and by exploring our options, you're sure to find something that suits your needs.
These memorial plaques can be used for a range of purposes, including bench plaques, grave markers, or even as simple plaques mounted on tree stakes.
Engraved Plaques - Stone Like Corian
Although not actually stone, but stone-like corian is a perfect material for engraved plaques. It can be used for house signs, large and small, nameplates as well as detailed memorial plaques. It also has the advantage of being virtually maintenance free. Available in many stone colours along with white and green
Engraved Plaques - Acrylic Laminate
These signs are outdoor information signs and engraved nameplates. They are very durable - made from 2-ply exterior grade flexible acrylic, which is weatherproof and UV resistant. The letters are engraved through the first layer of laminate to show the colour underneath. They can also be used for Low-Cost House Numbers
Sustainable Engraved Plaques - PaperStone - Waterproof
Although the name suggests otherwise, this product is weatherproof. PaperStone is the obvious choice for eco-friendly signage or memorials. Made of recycled paper and cardboard combined with natural resin, this material is available in various colours. To test that it was waterproof, we left samples in a water trough for three months, and they came out perfect.
Chemically Etched Steel and Brass Plaques
Ideal for small text, images with fine detail, photos or if several colours are needed. The main benefit of chemical etching over standard engraving is no mechanical stress to the material and no cutter marks as the unwanted material is removed by chemicals, leaving clear, sharp, flat surface detail. Not as cost-effective for small engraved plaques unless there is a large amount of text.
Engraved Plaques in Coloured Aluminium
We have black or coloured anodised aluminium we can use for engraved plaques. The letters are engraved through the surface to show the silver / white surface beneath. As we use a laser for this process the lettering can be very small if it is required. We can also use very detailed images, including line drawings and even good-quality photos
Engraved Stainless Steel
It is more expensive than other materials but is becoming increasingly popular. It is also easy to maintain. As with brass, aluminium, and acrylic, logos can be included, and they can be supplied with or without backing boards.
A slightly cheaper alternative with the advantage of being able to use very small text is Laser-Engraved Stainless Steel.
Laser Engraved Stainless Steel
These tough, maintenance-free stainless steel plates can be used in many situations where small text or detailed artwork is required. Even good-quality photos can be used.
Although not engraved into the metal, the lettering is permanent and as tough as the metal beneath.
Engraved Wooden Plaques & Office Door Signs
Solid wooden plaques in maple, cherry, and oak. These are just 5mm thick and ideal for indoor signs and plaques. Also wood veneer which is 3mm thick and perfect for engraved plaques and trophies.
Deep Engraved Recycled PVC
This rugged material, designed as a commercial signage board, also makes excellent large house nameplates, entrance signs, or information signage. It is light yet hard, resilient and environmentally friendly. The surface is matt white new PVC, which covers a thick core of black recycled PVC. The material is 10mm thick and can be cut into any shape.
Anoprinted Aluminium Plaques & Memorials
This process locks the photograph and wording inside the hard anodised layer. This makes the plaque very tough and durable, completely waterproof, as well as being resistant to fading. The background colours for the plaque are silver or gold. These plaques can be used either as a complete memorial plaque or inserted into a wooden, Corian or slate memorial
Tree Stakes and Plaque Holders
We offer a wide range of tree stakes to suit your needs. Our selection includes simple wrought iron tree stakes, wrought iron stakes with attached metal plates, tree stakes with two spikes, and modern angle iron stakes with security pins for mounting into concrete. Additionally, we can provide wooden tree stakes and posts, as well as wrought iron plaque holders for larger memorial plaques.
Engraved Desk Signs
Classic top quality engraved brass or modern anodised aluminium on a solid wood bar. We normally use oak which can be natural or black. However we can also use sapele which is a red coloured wood. Personalise the desk name plate sign to suit your situation. You choose the font, the layout and if you like, we can even include an image.
Backing Boards and Wooden Crosses
We offer backing boards in various timbers for mounting your memorial or engraved plaque. For optimal presentation, we recommend ordering a backing board 25mm larger than the plaque in both height and width.
Additionally, we provide maintenance-free Corian backing boards in various colours, including black, slate grey, and mahogany. We also craft wooden crosses in multiple sizes.
